Product Aftercare from Brackenwood
Brackenwood offers a range of high quality products for the home and a fully comprehensive and extensive range of Guarantees. To ensure the Guarantees are maintained for the duration of the Guarantee period it is essential that good housekeeping and basic maintenance procedures are carried out by the customer. Below are highlighted those requirements to ensure these Guarantees are not compromised.
a) Locks
Twice a year you'll need to spray WD40 oil (or equivalent) into all the lock hinges of your doors and windows and onto any metal to metal contact surfaces around your windows and doors. Please wipe away any excess oil with a clean cloth.
b) PVCu Frames
You'll need to make sure you clean them regularly with warm soapy water and a soft non-abrasive cloth. It is not advisable to use abrasive cleaners (i.e. as used for acrylic baths)
c) Polycarbonate Conservatory Roofs
Be sure to Clean regularly with warm soapy water and a soft non-abrasive cloth. The polycarbonate conservatory roof is not designed to take the weight of a person. If the roof is difficult to access, safe cleaning is best left to a specialist cleaning firm such as those found in Yellow Pages.
d) Glass
Your Glass should be cleaned with a proprietary glass cleaning liquid or soapy clean water. Care should be taken when cleaning leaded lights or stained glass areas.
e) Furniture
Handles, letterplates and door knockers should always be cleaned using warm soapy water.
GENERAL
After a heavy shower of rain you may find some water coming in the bottom of your door and window frames. This is nothing to worry about as it will drain away through the drainage holes in the base and will not enter the room.
To ensure a draught free door please remember to keep the door in the locked position. This will achieve a tight fit onto the draught seals. However, keys must not be left on the inside of a locked door as this will not allow entry from outside and could cause a "lock out" situation.
Ventilation
Windows can be locked in a partially opened position to allow ventilation
Leadwork
As with any new leadwork, when exposed to rain it will start an oxidisation process which shows as white or mottled staining on the leadwork. When this process is complete, the lead will be dark grey in colour and will no longer stain. This process will take several months to complete.
When cleaning leaded windows care must be taken not to catch the joints.
Activ Self-Cleaning Glass
Care should be taken when cleaning Activ glass and should only be undertaken in accordance with the maintenance instructions provided at time of installation. Use of products not specifically recommended for use with Activ will render the Guarantee invalid.
Remember, after buying your house having windows, doors or a conservatory installed could be your next biggest investment. Please ensure the proper maintenance is carried out on a regular basis.
Maintenance can be carried out by a Brackenwood engineer for a reasonable fee. Please contact the Service Department on 01256 866166 or send an e-mail to maintenance@brackenwood.com for further details.
